Nashville employment lawyer Caraline Rickard uses her diverse legal background—which includes representing clients ranging from the people of Tennessee to Fortune 500 companies—to provide superior representation to Tennessee workers.

Professional Background

After graduating from Vanderbilt Law School, Caraline began her career by representing the people of Tennessee at the Nashville District Attorney’s Office and the Department of Children’s Services. She then successfully represented Tennessee workers in wrongful termination and discrimination cases at one of Tennessee’s premier plaintiff-side employment law firms.

Caraline then joined the Labor & Employment Group at Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, LLP, Nashville’s largest law firm and one of the 200 largest firms in the United States (now Holland & Knight LLP). At Waller, Caraline represented companies of all sizes, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, all across the country. She counseled these companies in a variety of legal matters, ranging from developing employment policies to advising companies on employee concerns to representing companies in litigation. Caraline has been recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch every year since 2022. Best Lawyers are selected by peer-review survey based on their professional abilities and reputations.

Caraline now brings her recognized skill back to representing Tennessee employees, as one of the only Tennessee employment lawyers representing working people who knows what happens in the “other room” when employers are dealing with employment lawsuits.

Caraline has helped educate her fellow lawyers on labor and employment issues by presenting at continuing legal education programs and writing articles for legal publications. Her article on maternity discrimination, Getting Off the Mommy Track: An International Model Law Solution to the Global Maternity Discrimination Crisis, was published in the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law in 2014 and has been cited in textbooks and other publications about women’s rights.

Caraline is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and the Lawyers Association for Women. She sits on the Executive Board of the Nashville Chapter of the American Constitution Society. She is a member of the Class of 2022 of the prestigious Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law program. She has been recognized as an American Bar Association Pro Bono Leader.

Personal Background

Caraline is a native Tennessean, born and raised in rural West Tennessee. She moved to Nashville in 2012 to attend Vanderbilt Law School and has called Nashville home ever since. Outside of the office, Caraline enjoys reading, cooking, and getting creative with almost any craft project, especially sewing, embroidery, and quilting. She spends most of her time with her partner in every way, Curt Masker, and their ray of sunshine, Ruthie the mini goldendoodle.

Curt really came through for me when a previous employer had reported my job title and hire dates incorrectly, he got it corrected within 12 hours of speaking to him about it! I would recommend him for any of your legal needs as he is quite efficient!

Renee

Curt was very responsive from the beginning. He made it a very easy process, and he provided excellent guidance in the review of my severance agreement. Due, in part, to Curt's thoughtful suggestions in regards to changing some key language in the agreement that would protect both me and my former...

Thomas

Curt handled a case for me and did an unbelievable job in getting a resolution and a great settlement. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
